March 3, 2014 – We are excited to name Gurden Smith IV as this week’s Athlete of the Week. Gurden excels at running and has won several awards to prove this. Not only was he the captain of the Cross Country team his senior year, he was also awarded the Leadership Award at Brevard Running Camp. He was also awarded Outstanding Distance Runner 2012-2013 in Track & Field. Along with incredible athletic ability, Gurden is a superior student at James Clemens High School, ranking fifth in his class with a 4.707 GPA. He also is a member of the Marching Band and was designated Drill Tech De-Facto and awarded a Letterman’s Patch. Proving even more multi-faceted, Gurden volunteered to assist with the children’s programs at the Hogan Family YMCA. He also volunteered at the Lincoln Housing Project to repair homes destroyed by tornadoes, as well as, at The Manna House where he helped feed the homeless. Incredible athletic skill combined a strong mind and heart to match is what makes Gurden the best choice for this week’s Athlete of the Week. Congratulations Gurden!
