D1 NFL QB’s Have Record-Setting Days
September 30, 2013 – Peyton Manning & Philip Rivers, both D1 athletes & co-owners, had record-setting days yesterday…
Manning’s 16 touchdown passes broke the record of 14 through the first four games of the season. That record had been co-held by Sammy Baugh, Don Meredith and Kurt Warner. No other team has more than 15 TOTAL touchdowns this season.
Rivers had a fantastic Sunday himself, leading the Chargers’ to a victory over the Dallas Cowboys 30-21. Rivers finished the day 35 of 42 with an 83-percent completion percentage that set a single-game record for a QB throwing for at least 400 yards.
The previous accuracy mark was 81.8 percent, set by Jeff Garcia for the 2000 San Francisco 49ers against the Chicago Bears on a day in which Terrell Owens caught 20 passes for 283 yards and Jerry Rice was his secondary receiver.
