January 24, 2013 – “A decade after finishing my college football career, I had gone from the peak of physical condition (at least as close as an offensive lineman can get) to 350 lbs. of “Oh, it’s not that bad.” But it was. It was awful. Hypertensive and borderline diabetic are no way to live in your early thirties with a wife and two young kids. I had let myself go, and to be honest, I felt very little hope of ever getting my body under control again. Six months ago, some friends challenged me to take part in a local 10K race. I agreed, and alongside a running regimen, I began training in the Adult Boot Camps at D1 Bowling Green. My first session was incredibly hard and made me do a real gut-check of the shape into which I had gotten myself. I was embarrassed. Mr. Former Football Player could barely perform a proper “girl” push-up. But the coaches at D1 pushed me, encouraged me, and made me feel like change was really possible. They encouraged me to come back, and I did. Six months later, I’ve lost 60 lbs, built a ton of lean muscle, and taken some major steps toward becoming the person I want to be. I’m not there yet, but I’m confident that the coaches and athletes at D1 Bowling Green will continue to push me to reach the goals I’ve wanted for so long.”
