Dalton Whitaker – HH & TOC Athlete of The Week
February 15, 2013 – Meet Dalton Whitaker. Before arriving at New Hope High School, Dalton tried it all. Wrestling, baseball, basketball and football, to name a few. He narrowed down his focus to football and basketball, before finally settling on the hard-court where he’s become an integral part of the Indians Varsity Basketball squad. His attitude is “Team First”, which is the role he plays on the court. In the classroom is a different story. Dalton puts in the work and he reaps the rewards. To this date, he carries a strong 3.8 GPA while pursuing an advanced high school diploma. Dalton is at the top of his class and continues on track to receive an academic scholarship from the University of Alabama, where he plans to study Corporate Finance and eventually make his way towards law school. Before he gets there, he’s making sure he’s taking the right steps down the halls of New Hope High. Dalton has assumed the role of school representative with Boy’s State and the Youth Summit group, and several student associated clubs and organizations. Like his big brother, Dalton knows that you “get what you give”, so Dalton gives a lot. For him, it starts in the church, where he is very active with the youth ministry and is always the first person to help those in need. He volunteers every year with the Special Olympics and continues to work with local organizations, such as The Care Center and Anchor Club. His biggest thrill comes when he can help tutor fellow students who need help with school. Congratulations, Dalton!
