Stuart Slayton – HH & TOC Athlete of the Week

October 28, 2013- Our first Athlete of the Week for the month of November comes to us from that specific group of people who knew they were born to run.  Bob Jones senior Stuart Slayton is no exception to this group.  He loves putting on his running shoes and hitting the trail; the cross country trail, that is.  Stuart began running as a 9th grader for the Patriots Cross Country team, and he hasn’t stopped since.  In fact, Stuart has progressed with each year.  He began running in state meets his sophomore year and is currently the team captain.  He’s improved his time for 5K races to the point that he was awarded “Impact Runner” on the 2013 Alabama State Cross Country Team.  In the classroom, he’s blazing a trail through his books, as quickly as he blazes the trail on the cross country course.  His 4.33 GPA places him near the top of his class and the 31 he scored on his ACT has caught the attention of some universities and colleges.  He has received the AP Scholar Award and is a member of the National Honors Society and the National Spanish Honors Society.  In his community, Stuart puts his feet to work.  For the past three years, he has set up and operated the “Run to Rescue” 5k race that benefits and raises money for the Downtown Rescue Mission.  He’s actively involved with is church and their youth ministry, which participate in many community services.  Congratulations, Stuart!
