Stephanie Eckerd – HH & TOC Athlete of the Week

October 14, 2013 – As we close out the month of October, we are introduced to a young lady who has had her fair share of kills, digs and aces.  Based on that brief overview, you would think we were talking about someone who knows their way around a deck of cards.  In the case of Stephanie Eckerd, it’s not cards she knows her way around, but rather a court: a volleyball court, to be more precise.  This Hazel Green High School senior increased her focus on the game in middle schools, where she was voted “Most Improved Player.”  As a freshman, Stephanie was voted Captain of the Junior Varsity team AND to the All-County All-Star team.  From that point, she exceled as an All-Star for her church volleyball team and has now earned the Co-captain position for the Lady Trojans Varsity squad.  Stephanie continues her strong effort in to the classroom, where she carries a 3.6 GPA and holds a steady spot on her class’s honor roll.  She has been a member of the National Honors Society for the past two years.  At the same time, she was chosen as Trojan Ambassador for Hazel Green High School; an honor chosen for an outstanding student who represents the values of the school the best.  When it comes to donating time, somehow, Stephanie finds more hours in a day than most to give back.  In addition to donating blood as often as possible, Stephanie is firmly entrenched with her church and its projects.  She assists in the church nursery, works with Vacation Bible School each summer and has worked with the Upward Sports program at church.  She’s also spent time volunteering with Special Olympics, Manna House and the Space and Rocket Center.  Congratulations, Stephanie!
